We heard your lamentation in the hall of whispers. There have been several serious requests that the deadline for Guy N. Smith challenge should be prolonged with a new premiere release date.
The winning contribution will be screened online at Shortly.film on Halloween, 2024. New deadline for submission is Friday 25 October.
The objective is to produce a short film based on the short story The Vigil by the world-famous horror author Guy N. Smith and participate in the short film challenge that will end on 20th August 2024. You can read the short story online at shortly film.

Rules and requirements:
The film must be based on the short story – THE VIGIL – and credited in the opening texts.
The format must be MP4.
The file must be no larger than 2 GB.
If the language used is other than English, subtitles must be burnt in.
Maximum length of 15 minutes.
Deadline 23.59 on Friday 25 October 2024.

Details:
- When you upload your short film about Shortly (the “Contribution”) you grant to Shortly a non-exclusive right, throughout the entire world, via Shortly, to make available all or parts of your Contribution. Furthermore, you grant to Shortly a nonexclusive right, within the territory, to freely use extracts, clips, still images, resumes, etc. from the Contributionand uploaded trailers and marketing materials for the purpose of marketing Shortly.
- You agree that, subject to any moral rights, Shortly shall be entitled to display its trademark and/or logo or other icon or cross promotion message in conjunction with exploitation of your Contribution.
- You warrant that you own (or are entitled to legally dispose of) all intellectual property rights required for participation with you. Contribution according to these rules. You are independently responsible, in relation to Shortly, for clearing and payment of all rights compensation to participants in the Contribution.
- You shall ensure that the Contribution does not contain statements or materials that the publication of which may give rise to liability in damages or criminal liability for Shortly. You undertake not to upload Contributions which contain unlawful materials.
- Shortly is entitled at any time whatsoever to deny publication of, or to remove already published, Contribution which do not fulfil the requirements imposed for making such available on Shortly.
